Let's catch up from the first fall sports weekend

Carroll County's fall teams began playing regular-season games on Sept. 2.

The 2022 fall high school sports season is less than one week old, but teams have already started playing meaningful games.

Let's jump right in and take a look at the girls soccer and football teams that have played some games so far.

 

Football

Liberty 34, Walkersville 14

Recap: Jack Pellicciotti threw for 148 yards and ran for two TDs in the Lions' Week 1 victory. Seth Jacobs rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown, and Sam Evans caught 5 passes for 57 yards.

South Carroll 35, Brunswick 0

Recap: AJ Rodrigues ran for three touchdowns and the reigning Carroll County champions had no problems with the Railroaders. Carter Mazalewski added a pair of rushing TDs, and Caleb Blum and Nate Boore totaled 7 tackles apiece.

Smithsburg 21, FSK 0

Recap: Ngatu Whitfield had one catch for 52 yards, but the Eagles struggled on offense against the Leopards in David Cunningham's first game as coach.

Dundalk 35, Century 7

Recap: The Knights couldn't keep up with the Owls in their opener. Casey Clark broke off a 45-yard touchdown run for Century.

Westminster 33, South River 0

Recap: The Owls enjoyed a shutout win behind rushing TDs from KeonDre Groomes and Kyrece Walker. Groomes also had a fumble recovery TD on a botched punt. Mason Fisher caught a TD pass and hauled in an interception.

Girls Soccer

Leonardtown 3, Liberty 1

Recap: On Sept. 3, the Lions played in a the Leonardtown tourney and fell to the hosts despite a goal from Rose Larner.

Liberty 3, Walkersville 0

Recap: On Sept. 3, Liberty blanked the Lions of Frederick County and got goals from Madi Rytina, Hannah DeVincent, and Larner.

Liberty 8, Catoctin 0

Recap: On Sept. 6, Larner netted 4 goals to power the Lions (2-1) in their home opener. 

Man Valley 1, Concordia Prep 0

Recap: On Sept. 3, the Mavs played in the North Harford tourney and won their opener. Emma Penczek scored for MV.

Man Valley 4, North Harford 1

Recap: On Sept. 3, the Mavericks (2-0) defeated the hosts as Penczek and Dory Langmead had a goal and an assist each.

Westminster 3, Walkersville 1

Recap: On Sept. 3, Emmerson Hill scored two goals for the Owls in the Leonardtown tourney.

Leonardtown 3, Westminster 2

Recap: On Sept. 3, Emma Youngling and Jennifer Vasquez had goals for the Owls.

Westminster 2, Linganore 1

Recap: On Sept. 6, Audrey Houle converted a penalty kick and the Owls improved to 2-1. Carlie Rosewag made 9 saves in the win.

South Carroll 1, Bel Air 0

Recap: On Sept. 6, Mary Chambers scored unassisted and Brooke Turner made 9 saves for the Cavaliers.

Winters Mill 4, Thomas Johnson 1

Recap: On Sept. 6, Grace Weinreich had 2 goals and 1 assist and the Falcons notched a road win in their opener.
