Records broken at annual Carroll County Invitational
The annual pool party took place July 18 at South Carroll Swim Club, and the meet featured more than 300 swimmers from 7 local teams.
Congratulations to all of the winners from the 2024 Carroll County Invitational swim meet, hosted by South Carroll Swim Club.
The meet was postponed one day because of bad weather in the area July 17, but that didn't keep the atmosphere from being just as lively as ever. Swimmers went after fast times and cheers rang out across the swim club for many hours, giving the annual meet its traditional flavor.
And, some county records were broken.
James Williams from Westminster Swim Team set two of them, and teammate Brendan Moran snapped the other two.
He won the 8-under 25-meter freestyle in 16.44 seconds, eclipsing the old time of 16.59 set by Jason Kay (South Carroll Swim Team) in 1992 -- that's a 32-year-old record finally broken!
Williams won the 25 backstroke in 20.08 and set a new county meet mark. SC's Rylan Groves had the previous best of 20.19 in 2021.
Moran won the 50 butterfly in 26.39. Westminster Riding Club's Eric Haufler held the prior top time of 26.47 in 2011. And, Moran won the 100 free in 53.28 which eclipsed Matthew McGoey's previous record of 53.53 from 2016 (McGoey swam for South Carroll).
