Big moves being made by Carroll County boys, girls lacrosse squads

Saturday at The Masters golf tournament is considering "Moving Day," a time for the players who made the cut to climb the leaderboard for better positioning.

Well, this week may be "Moving Week" for the county's boys and girls lacrosse teams. We're delving into the meat of the Carroll County Athletic League schedule and there are some big games on the calendar. So let's take a look at how the first portion of the week went down across the county.

 

Boys Lacrosse

Century 9, Westminster 8 (OT)

Recap: Brent Wehland won it in extra time for the Knights (5-3, 3-0 CCAL), who had an 8-4 lead after three quarters before the Owls (4-4, 1-1) roared back. Wehland finished with 4 goals, while Jacob Hogue, Mason Fisher, and Austin Hardesty had 2 goals apiece for Westminster.

Manchester Valley 13, Francis Scott Key 4

Recap: Grant Miller had 3 goals and JT Calhoun handed out 3 assists for the Mavericks (4-5, 2-1 CCAL). Graham Johns led the Eagles (0-7, 0-4) with 3 goals.

South Carroll 15, Liberty 10

Recap: The Cavaliers (3-3, 2-1) got 6 goals from Ryan Barnard and 4 from Phil Suter, who added 4 assists. Liberty fell to 5-5, 1-2, and got 3 goals from Jackson Wright and 2 from Jesse Jason.

 

Girls Lacrosse

Manchester Valley 16, Francis Scott Key 3

Recap: Emma Penczek netted 7 goals for the Mavs (9-1, 3-1 CCAL), and Casey Meredith added 4 goals and 2 assists. Natalie Burmeister dished out 4 assists for MV. The Eagles dropped to 3-3, 0-3.

South Carroll 11, Liberty 10

Recap: Caroline Laur paced the Cavaliers (4-5, 2-2 CCAL) with 5 goals and Leah Miller posted 2. Shannon McTavish added 1 goal and 1 assist. The Lions fell to 6-4, 2-2. Val Thompson poured in 5 goals and Riley Matthiesen tallied 3 goals and 1 assist.

Century 17, Westminster 8

Recap: The Knights stayed undefeated and improved to 9-0 (3-0 CCAL), while the Owls (7-2, 3-1) lost for the first time since March 29. Jasmine Stanton and Lauren Hackett each netted 6 goals in the victory.
