Century girls lacrosse rallies to top Liberty in Carroll County action
The Knights and Lions have played two games this season and they were decided by a combined 3 goals.
Century hosted Liberty on May 3 in a Carroll County Athletic League girls lacrosse clash, with the Knights looking to go 6-0 against county opponents this season.
The rivals played one another in a tournament game back on April 16, and Century prevailed 11-9. The rematch was even closer.
Liberty controlled the first half and enjoyed a 6-2 lead, only to see Century roar back to tie the score in the final minutes. And when Caroline Little converted a free-position attempt late in regulation, the Knights went ahead 8-7. Defense held from there, and Century won to stay undefeated on the season.
Little led the Knights (13-0) with 4 goals and Jasmine Stanton scored 3, with Little adding 3 draw controls. Freshman goalie Becca Mullinix came up with crucial second-half saves to help anchor a Century defense that experienced a halftime deficit for the first time in 2022.
Liberty (7-7, 2-4 CCAL) got 2 goals from Val Thompson and 3 assists from Riley Matthiesen, as well as 7 saves from Emily Pond, another freshman goalie.
It was a thrilling finish, and CMSportsNet was there to get some postgame reaction. Check out our video interview with Little and Mullinix below!
