Century, Man Valley girls lacrosse rolling early in the season

The Mavericks are 5-0 while the Knights are off to a 4-0 start.

It's early, but two girls lacrosse teams have emerged as championship contenders.

That's not to say others don't have time to make their own statements, but for now it's clear Century and Manchester Valley are up to the challenge of vying for a Carroll County Athletic League crown (for starters).

Girls Lacrosse

Century 20, Winters Mill 2

Recap: On April 5, the Knights (4-0, 1-0 CCAL) got 8 goals from Anna Hackett and 4 from Jasmine Stanton in a rout. Caroline Little added 2 goals and 4 assists. Alex Powell and Sierra Perryman had goals for the Falcons (0-2, 0-1).

Man Valley 18, South Carroll 5

Recap: On April 5, Emma Penczek had 5 goals and Erin Herrold scored 3 for the Mavericks (5-0, 2-0 CCAL). Shannon McTavish and Caroline Laur had 2 goals each for the Cavaliers (2-3, 0-2), and Claire Vasquenza made 8 saves.

Liberty 8, Francis Scott Key 6

Recap: On April 6, the Lions (4-2, 1-1 CCAL) won their second in a row behind 4 goals from Val Thompson and 3 from Annika Wray. Ashlyn Watkins kept the Eagles close with 13 saves, while Hunter Kalin scored 3 goals.

Westminster 11, South River 6

Recap: On April 5, the Owls ran their record to 4-1. Box score information wasn't reported.

Man Valley 11, South Carroll 6

Recap: On April 5, the Mavs (2-4, 1-0 CCAL) picked up their second win in a row as JT Calhoun paced the offense with 4 goals. Kevin Connor stood tall with 17 saves for MV. Ryan Barnard netted 3 goals and Cash Stanton scored 2 for the Cavs (1-2, 0-1).

Recap: On April 5, Jesse Jason and Jackson Wright each posted 4 goals and the Lions improved to 3-2 (1-0 CCAL). Gabe Dell and Hayden Johns had goals for the Eagles (0-4, 0-2).

Westminster 9, South River 6
