Winters Mill might be the early surprise squad. The Falcons are 3-0 and 2-0 in Carroll County following Tuesday's overtime victory over reigning county champion Century.

Reed Postlethwait netted 6 goals and Winters Mill prevailed 11-10. Camden Deming added 2 goals and 2 assists, and Jesse Tobias scored twice.

The Falcons also defeated Francis Scott Key in county play, and they have an OT win over Gerstell as well.

They had a big game set for Thursday against Liberty (3-0, 1-0) but that one has been rescheduled for April 13.

Meanwhile, Westminster is also 3-0 (1-0 CCAL) and the Owls have a tournament Saturday at Western Regional Park to take on Howard County stalwarts Glenelg and River Hill. Westminster's game with Manchester Valley (3-1, 1-0) will have to wait after being postponed Thursday.

The Mavericks knocked off South Carroll 7-5 on Tuesday behind 3 assists from Grant Miller and 2 goals each from Gavin Reid and Conor Fique.

That Mavericks-Owls game will be made up at a later date, and it will most certainly be a pivotal one in determining the Carroll County champ.

The Mavs (5-0, 2-0 CCAL) took care of South Carroll on Tuesday, 17-8, thanks to 7 goals from Emma Penczek and 5 from Addison Meyer and Sarah Brisson.

Westminster hasn't played since March 30, but the Owls also have a Saturday tourney with games against Glenelg and River Hill at Western Regional. Senior Jess Kent recently reached career goal No. 100.

Century (4-0, 1-0) has a big game with Man Valley set for April 11. The Knights, last year's Class 2A state champion, downed Winters Mill 19-4 on Tuesday with Harli Hamlett scoring 6 goals and Delaney Sandbank handing out 4 assists.

Liberty (3-1, 0-1), the 1A reigning state champ, dropped its first county contest and has Winters Mill on April 12. The Lions also have a player who recently joined in the 100 Goal Club -- senior Riley Matthiesen.
