Lacrosse season underway for boys, girls teams in Carroll County

The first play date for spring sports in 2023 was March 21.

Spring is here, and with it the high school sports season has begun. Carroll's teams were in action for the first time March 21, so let's see who played well and which teams got off to a successful start in 2023.

 

Girls Lacrosse

Century 16, Catonsville 4

Recap: The reigning Class 2A state champs got 4 goals and 4 assists from Jane Brewer and 6 assists from Delaney Sandbank.

Francis Scott Key 15, Smithsburg 12

Recap: Sierra Rose scored 5 goals and Drew Watkins added 4 for the Eagles, who got 12 saves from Kaelyn Goff.

Man Valley 22, Franklin 3

Recap: Natalie Burmeister had 3 goals and 5 assists, and the Mavericks also got 6 goals from Emma Penczek and 4 from Haylee Bittinger.

South Carroll 16, Linganore 11

Recap: Shannon McTavish poured in 6 goals and Leah Miller added 5 for the Cavaliers.

Liberty 20, Catoctin 0

Recap: The reigning 1A state champion Lions had no trouble behind 4 goals and 2 assists from Sophia Carpinetti. Riley Matthiessen totaled 3 goals and 4 assists.

Westminster 20, C. Milton Wright 13

Recap: Jess Kent netted 6 goals and Paige Moreland added 4 assists for the Owls, who also got 3 goals each from Riley Ebersole and Emma Youngling.

 

Boys Lacrosse

Liberty 14, Catoctin 5

Recap: Aiden Ventura led the Lions with 5 goals and Edwin Blyden finished with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jack Mancha came up with 12 saves in the victory. 

Franklin 13, Man Valley 12

Recap: The Mavs dropped a close one despite 4 goals from Grant Miller and 3 goals from JT Calhoun, who added 3 assists.

Linganore 11, South Carroll 4

Recap: Carter Mazalewski led the Cavs with 2 goals and Caden Green scored 1.

Catonsville 9, Century 6

Recap: Ryan Ellis and Andrew Marcinko had 2 goals apiece for the Knights, and Cooper Santos handed out 2 assists.

Westminster 6, C. Milton Wright 5 (3OT)

Recap: Cam Webb scored the game-winner for the Owls.
