Carroll Lynx getting set for another fall season
The community college has new soccer coaches -- and a new sport -- making debuts this year.
College soccer at Carroll Community kicks off in August and the Lynx have men's and women's teams ready to go for the fall season. Plus, Carroll is introducing volleyball in the fall.
And back on campus, the Lynx soccer programs have new faces at the helm.
Men's Soccer
Carroll has a new coach in Joe Pratt, who comes to Westminster from Frederick Community College. Pratt led FCC to a 12-win season in 2022, and they reached the Region 20 championship game. Five FCC players earned all-Region 20 honors. Pratt led Frederick Community College to a regional title in 2021.
Carroll's first game of the new season is set for Aug. 22 at home against Montgomery College, and the Lynx have 10 home games on the schedule in 2023.
Joey Brauer led the Lynx in scoring last season with 9 goals and 18 points, but Brauer finished his time at Carroll and is now playing at Stevenson University.
Women's Soccer
Carroll has a new coach in Carl Delmont, who comes to the Lynx with years of experience as a club coach in and around Carroll County. Delmont became president in 2017 of Baltimore Celtic, which is one of the top club soccer programs in Maryland. He also is owner of the Harrisburg Heat, a professional indoor soccer team that plays in the Major Arena Soccer League alongside the Baltimore Blast.
The Celtic club has won six national championships since 2014 between its men's and women's sides under Delmont.
Carroll recently added an offensive piece to its 2023 roster with the addition of Haley Greenwade, who went from Century High School to Eastern Kentucky to play Division I college soccer before returning home. Greenwade, a three-time Carroll County Times Player of the Year, netted 44 goals in three seasons for the Knights (2019-22).
Just the Lynx men's team, Carroll opens the 2023 season Aug. 22 at home against Montgomery College. The Lynx have 6 home games on their slate this fall.
Volleyball
Carroll's latest sport recently received a grant from the National Junior College Athletic Association as part of its 2023 debut. The Lynx are led by Teri Leatherwood, who coached varsity at Manchester Valley High School and has been involved with North Carroll Recreation Council for several years.
Carroll will play its home matches at Coppermine Pantherplex in Hampstead, formerly known as North Carroll High School.
The Lynx's inaugural match is scheduled for Aug. 23 vs. Cecil College at the Pantherplex, and they have 7 home matches on the 2023 schedule. Carroll also has a scrimmage Aug. 29 with McDaniel College at Gill Center.
