Here's what lies ahead for Carroll County football, girls soccer teams

Some big games are on tap as the Carroll County Athletic League fall season has passed the midway point.

It's hard to believe it's almost mid-October. Halloween decor is about to make way for Thanksgiving and (gasp!) Christmas.

But before we start handing out seasons greetings, there are big-time games on the schedule across the Carroll County Athletic League. Let's take a look at the important girls soccer and football showdowns on tap in the coming weeks.

Girls Soccer

Century (4-0 CCAL, 7-2 overall) at Liberty (3-1, 6-4)

When: Oct. 11, 6:30

At stake: The Knights can inch closer to a 4th straight county title with a win, but the Lions can move ahead of their rivals by netting a home victory. Liberty's county loss came against Westminster on Sept. 10.

Westminster (3-1, 7-3) at Winters Mill (1-3, 4-4)

When: Oct. 11, 6:30

At stake: The Owls are in the CCAL title hunt, and they host Century on Oct. 17. But they'll have to knock off their city rivals first in order to stay in contention. Westminster hasn't won a county crown since 2006.

It's a three-team chase for the county title (Century's 2-0 win over South Carroll on Oct. 6 put the Cavaliers out of the mix). Some teams can still play spoiler, however.

CMSportsNet visited Manchester Valley last week to see the Mavericks take on Francis Scott Key on their Senior Night. Check out our highlights package from the game.

Football

South Carroll (3-0, 6-0) at Liberty (3-0, 4-2)

When: Oct. 14, 6:30

At stake: The Cavs have won 15 regular season games in a row and are looking to repeat as county champions. They edged the Lions last season in the Game of the Year (our pick), and Liberty wants nothing more than some sweet revenge.

Westminster (2-1, 5-1) at Century (1-2, 1-5)

When: Oct. 14, 6

At stake: The Owls are still alive, but they need a win plus a South Carroll loss before hosting the Lions on Oct. 21 in the next huge game on the calendar. Westminster kept pace by taking care of business last week against Francis Scott Key.

In fact, we visited Ruby Field for the Eagles-Owls clash in our latest Game of the Week broadcast. Take a look at the CMSportsNet highlights from Westminster's convincing win.
