Recapping my senior season, albeit bittersweet

Check out Ryan Finn's occasional blog for CMSportsNet, where he will post his thoughts and experiences from playing high school sports in Carroll County.

Unfortunately, our basketball season came to an end last week in the regional final against our rival Liberty. Even with our loss, our team had such an amazing season, despite adversity we have faced.

Here, I will recap how our season went and break down things such as highlights, team chemistry, adversity, etc.

First half of the season

We started off on fire; going 7-1 in our first 8 games. Even with our hot start, we started to face some real adversity. We had a bit of a rough stretch during the middle of January.

With losses in big games against South Carroll, Liberty, and Manchester Valley, Century's usual spot atop the county standings was being threatened. What is different about this team is that even with the adversity, we didn't let it affect us.

Second half of the season

During the midpoint of the season, our team really focused on how we could change. Working hard in practice every day, focusing on the game plan, and our team chemistry were all key to us digging out of the hole that we were in.

From about late January to February, our team got hot at the right time, going 8-1 in that stretch. Wins such as Ben Chenoweth's game-winning half court shot at South Carroll, or double overtime with Liberty, really gave us a lot of momentum heading into playoffs.

Although coming up short in the playoffs, the feeling of those big wins will always be something that I remember.

What I will miss

Playing for this program has given me many opportunities to grow as a person and just not only as an athlete on the court.

I will miss a plethora of things, such as blaring music on the bus after big wins, seeing my boys in the student section, and the atmosphere of playing in games such as Liberty or South Carroll.

The main thing I will miss however, is the relationships I have made. All the fun times in the locker room, conversations with the coaches at practice, pregame meals, are memories that I will never forget.

Even though we lost in our playoff game, I will never lose the memories of this team.
