Some spring sports cleaning, and coaching changes
Let's take a look at the boys and girls lax scoring leaders from 2023.
I wanted to display the Carroll County Athletic League scoring leaders for boys and girls lacrosse from this past spring season. Thanks to the coaches who submitted stats to me as much as possible throughout the spring.
I also wanted to give two coaches a proper send-off. More on that below.
First up, let's look at boys lacrosse.
Just a note that Liberty's stats are through the regular season only.
And now, let's see the girls lacrosse leaders.
Plenty of solid performances across Carroll County.
Speaking of solid, I wanted to bid farewell to a pair of county champion coaches -- longtime Westminster boys lacrosse coach Steve DeFeo, and Francis Scott Key girls basketball coach TJ Develin.
Both men stepped down after their respective seasons.
DeFeo put together a Hall of Fame-worthy resume in hid 13 seasons as Owls coach. Westminster went 173-26 with 7 county championships and 3 state championships. The Owls won state crowns in 2013, 2018, and 2019, and they went 19-0 in 2019 amid a winning streak that reached 40 games.
DeFeo guided Westminster to another Carroll County Athletic League title in 2023, and the Owls went 13-2.
Develin took over as girls hoops coach at FSK in 2018, and by season's end the Eagles won 19 games and their first county title since the 1980s. The next two seasons were rough, but Develin helped turn things around in 2021.
Key went 33-13 over the last two years, and Develin's career record is 56-51 with a pair of county championships. Francis Scott Key went 19-4 this winter and won the CCAL crown.
