South Carroll puts Century's winning streak to bed

Boys Basketball

South Carroll 55, Century 47

Recap: The Cavaliers (5-6, 3-2 Carroll County Athletic League) clamped down on defense and handed the Knights (9-2, 4-1) their first Carroll County loss of the season. Tucker Eckert led SC with 16 points and Owen Scott added 13. John Pavlick paced Century with 17 points and Brent Wehland scored 16.

Pat's Take

That result created a two-way tie atop the CCAL boys basketball standings. Century and Liberty are both 9-2 overall, 4-1 in the county. And they are set to square off Monday, Jan. 18 for the first time this season.

Liberty 68, Westminster 46

Recap: The Lions (9-2, 4-1 county) connected on 13 3-pointers and jumped out to a 17-7 lead early on. Shane Stewart totaled 18 points and seven assists, Tyler Downs scored 15, and Elias Rimel added 12. Liam Long scored 15 to lead the Owls (2-6, 0-4).

Winters Mill 54, Man Valley 50

Recap: The Falcons (6-4, 3-3 county) won their third in a row and fifth in six games. No box score information was reported. MV fell to 3-8, 1-4.

Francis Scott Key 69, Brunswick 64

Recap: On Friday, Ryan Rill went for 29 points and sank four 3-pointers for the Eagles (6-3). Rill added nine rebounds, and Logan Milstreed finished with 13 points and four assists.

FSK 64, Southern Garrett 60

Recap: On Saturday, Rill dominated again with 30 points, eight boards, and three blocks and the Eagles (7-3) won their third in a row. Logan Milstreed contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Liam McGrath netted 13 points.

Girls Basketball

Westminster 58, Liberty 53

Recap: Juliana Lesher had 12 points while Abby Kindle and Kylie McWilliams scored 10 apiece for the Owls (6-2, 3-1 CCAL), who handed Liberty its first county defeat since 2019. Jess Littlejohn had 23 points and seven steals for the Lions (6-3, 2-1). The Lions played their first game since Dec. 28.

Century 52, South Carroll 35

Recap: Mia Graff had 20 points, 14 rebounds, and four steals for the Knights (9-1, 3-1 county). Eva Brandt pulled down 15 rebounds and scored nine points as well. Leah Miller had 10 points for the Cavs (3-7, 1-3).

Man Valley 53, Winters Mill 30

Recap: Carmaya Bowman scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Kyrsten Lucas added 11 points while freshman Emma Penczek scored eight for the Mavericks (10-1, 4-1 CCAL). The Falcons are 0-6, 0-3.

Francis Scott Key 52, Brunswick 40

Recap: The Eagles improved to 6-5 and snapped a three-game skid in the process. Box score information wasn't reported.

Wrestling

Westminster (9-5, 1-2 CCAL) hosted Liberty (8-7, 2-2) and Gerstell in a tri-meet before also facing Marriotts Ridge on Jan. 15. The Lions also met with Boonsboro in a rescheduled dual match. Here are the results:

Man Valley at Rebel Duals

Recap: The Mavericks (17-6) went 5-3 in Hagerstown with victories over South Hagerstown, Catoctin, St. John's, Fort Hill, and Thomas Johnson.
