Sports Notes: Overtime thriller for FSK, Century

CMSportsNet winter high school sports recap for Jan. 27, 2022.

Francis Scott Key traveled to Century on Jan. 27 for a Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball showdown looking for a little revenge.

The Eagles and Knights played faced each other Jan. 5, and Century prevailed by 18 points. This week's game was headed for a similar result until FSK turned things around in the second half and pulled off a huge road win.

Ally Mathias led the way with 21 points and Summer Brooks added 14 in Key's 53-45 victory. The Eagles (10-5, 4-3 CCAL) won their their fifth in a row while handing the Knights (11-2, 5-2) their second county loss.

Century led by 14 points at halftime before Francis Scott Key rallied. Drew Watkins grabbed 11 rebounds and added six points and three assists for the Eagles. Abby Reiger had nine points, three boards, and two steals as well.

Eva Brandt scored 14 points for the Knights, while Mia Graff added 12 and Mellendick netted nine. Century had won five straight before Thursday's game.

Pat's Take: FSK's win shook up a county standings a little. Century's loss means Manchester Valley (6-1 county) and Westminster (4-1) are tied in the loss column for first place. The Mavericks and Owls were set to play Jan. 28 before after-school activities were postponed because of pending inclement weather.

Man Valley takes on Century on Feb. 1 in a big matchup. Meanwhile, the Owls get FSK on Feb. 2 in another crucial game.

Plenty to play for in the coming weeks!
